When you choose seasonal fruits and veggies, you’re not just treating your taste buds, you’re giving the environment a high-five! By skipping produce that gets to the grocery store through long-haul journeys using greenhouse gas emissions, you’re reducing your carbon footprint and keeping Mother Nature’s pantry diverse and delicious. Plus, it’s always great to support local farmers!

If you live in the Bay Area like me, you know that there are some truly fantastic farmers markets spread all throughout the city. My favorites include:

  • Clement Street Farmer’s Market
  • Outer Sunset Farmer’s Market & Mercantile
  • Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market
  • Alemany Farmer’s Market

My favorite fruits and veggies to enjoy at the peak of their season in June are berries (LOVE making berry smoothies in the morning!), cherries, cauliflower, and dark leafy greens like kale and chard.

Next time you’re looking for meal ideas and not quite sure what to make, look to your local farmer’s markets for inspiration! Cooking with the season is my best tip for creating better flavor with simpler ingredients. Let your fruits and vegetables do the talking!
